In January of 2015, the government of Canada introduced a new electronic application management system – Express Entry – to manage applications of skilled foreign workers for permanent residence under three federal economic immigration programmes and a portion of the Provincial Nominee Programmes (PNP). The three federal programmes are:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWC)
  • Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC)
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

Express Entry is not a new immigration programme; it is a new way for Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) to manage economic immigration applications online.

Canada government has expected that Express Entry will result in faster processing times for prospective skilled foreign workers and will also make it easier for candidates to secure a job before they arrive, by facilitating matches with Canadian employers.
